Rochester Table Tennis Classic is a Success!
The 1st annual Rochester
table tennis tournament had an excellent showing, with over 30
competitors entering. The players were evenly distributed into four
pools. Friday December 17 was “Open Challenge Day.” Anyone was allowed
to come and play and challenge anyone to a match. The tournament
started on Monday the December 20 with everyone playing everyone else in
their pool, and the top four players from each pool would then go on to
bracket play. Tuesday started with the Sweet 16, the first round of
bracket play. The Sweet 16 consisted of: Nic Atkinson, Eric Miller,
Shane Ruggless, Corey Cox, Joe Wellbaum, Matt Jeffers, Mike Maloney, Pat
Capps, Andy Maloney, Eric Leach, Matt Czapar, Andrew Berecz, Nick Blough,
Brett Leonard, Nathan Atkinson, and David Hawkins. The first and second
rounds were best out of 5 matches, with the Final Four and Championship
matches being best of seven. Nic Atkinson played Andy Maloney in five
close games to win the match and the tournament. The tournament was
